We proudly present The Ethiopian Cup; the specialty coffee auction that reveals the best Ethiopian micro-lots to roasters and coffee drinkers worldwide. The auction gives homage to the diversity and beauty of coffees birthplace and honors the growers behind the beans. On Thursday the 27th of June (2:00 p.m. BST) we welcome all coffee roasters to bid on the best Ethiopian coffees of 2018/2019.
The Cup invites growers from all regions in Ethiopia to submit their best coffees. The finalists will be awarded with unconventional premiums.
Tibebu Roba, smallholder and last year’s auction winner, can attest to this; taking home an astounding USD 33.658 premium.
Tibebu’s 91-scoring natural Yirgacheffe was bought and roasted by Kentaro Maruyama and Pil Hoon Sue (Coffeelibre).
Only a handful of carefully selected lots will be cupped at Trabocca’s headquarters by an all-star jury.

The Ethiopian Cup is part of Trabocca’s mission to deliver Ethiopia’s best coffees to roasters worldwide while contributing to thriving coffee communities. We believe that the auction premiums act as tools to empower growers. Especially when coffee market prices are at a 23-year low, we find it necessary to present an alternative. Auctions like The Ethiopian Cup are not a fix-all solution to the multifaceted problem of coffee prices, but they give the Ethiopian growers the recognition they deserve.”

As you may notice, this is not our first auction. In 2018 we organized the ‘Operation Cherry Red Auction’, an extension of our Operation Cherry Red program. The auction resulted in a USD 96.292 premium for the participating growers. An amazing result.
Although the auction was a success, we decided to change the name. Why? Our prime reason is that the name should resonate with the identity of the people behind the coffee. The Ethiopian Cup represents all Ethiopian growers: from Guji to Limu, they all have the possibility to participate and reap the benefits of this auction.
