Trabocca is a green (unroasted) coffee trading company, specialized in certified specialty coffee. We have offices in Amsterdam, Minneapolis, and Addis Ababa. As such we source coffee from all over the world and advise roasters on the coffee they need. We aim to provide high quality, traceable coffees to roasters worldwide. And are dedicated to improving the whole supply chain by establishing close relationships between producers and roasters.

The Quality Department of Trabocca has the purpose of reducing risk, driving customer confidence, and working on continuous improvement, to deliver the needed products to the roaster, according to product specifications and within set regulations.

For our HQ in the center of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, we are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer.

As the Quality Assurance Engineer, you are responsible for product quality control, and quality assurance of the whole supply chain. You coordinate supplier, subcontractor, and product approval, as well as coordinate quality related corrective actions, both internal and external. You report to the Trabocca Quality Assurance Manager.

Your responsibilities and objectives

You assess new and existing suppliers and subcontractors, who are located worldwide, evaluate their information, and decide if there are any gaps, and follow up how these gaps need to be addressed together with the supplier, and decide if and how we can work with the supplier or subcontractor.

Our coffees are produced all over the world and are transported to destinations across the globe. Quality Control is therefore an important pillar, to make sure all products are within specification, both on flavor, grade, certification standards and regulations. You will be an important member of our sensory panel, working with the SCA cupping form to create a sensory profile and check consistency of flavor over time and throughout the supply chain. You will follow up analysis, release products, and follow up when products are out of specification. You also implement improvements regarding products and processes. Together with the Quality Assistant you will be responsible for maintenance of our sensory analysis lab.

You also ensure that our customers receive the coffees and service that they need. Part of the role is answering questionnaires, handling complaints, customer questions and customer specification follow up.

Additionally, operational quality desk work of QA assistants is done by the QA Engineer on an as needed basis, such as roasting samples, green grading, and sample administration of inbound and outbound samples.

Job requirements

  • A bachelor’s in food/life science; or work experience in a food safety position
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a similar position
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English and Dutch
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including excel
  • Computer literacy and experience with ERP systems (Axapta is a plus)
  • Knowledge of risk assessments (food safety and/or organic) and food safety standards
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations
  • Knowledge of certification standards is a plus
  • Experience with coffee and coffee knowledge (specialty, roasting, sensory evaluation) is a strong plus
  • Experience with implementation of quality systems, supplier control, product control, especially within a global company, is an advantage
  • A positive attitude, working accurately and organized, always looking for ways to improve
